About Peachwood

We are a childcare/preschool located South of Wichita, Kansas in Haysville. We have many features that help us to stand out as unique and different. First thing we like to let parents know is that we are a secure facility. Meaning, our front door is locked at all times and nobody can enter without a code. We have video cameras in all the classrooms and the playgrounds. Each family is given the ability to view their child’s classroom and playground from any smart phone, tablet or computer that has internet access. The curriculum is adjusted for that age of child. Teachers have out side of classroom planning time. All of our meals and snacks are home made and are low sugar for better health and wellness. Our work culture is based around helping and assisting each other. We practice and train in Conscious Discipline. Conscious Discipline is a comprehensive social and emotional intelligence classroom management program that empowers each of us. Children leave our care more confident and able to speak up and use their words around their individual needs.

Peachwood Early Learning Center admits students of any race, color, gender, nationality and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, nationality and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

From Small Beginnings Come Great Things!

Peachwood Early Learning Center opened in November of 2013 with just TWO children and five full-time staff members.  As of this update, Peachwood is getting ready to celebrate it’s SEVENTH birthday with over 50 children, nearly 20 staff members, both full and part-time!

We attribute our growth to many things, but most importantly  to providing each family with a loving, secure and healthy environment where they know their child will be safe and happy…truly a “home away from home.”

Coded-Access Entry

One of the biggest concerns that parents have is that they want to know that their child is SAFE during the day.  One ways that we ensure your child’s safety is by maintaining a secure facility.  All entrants to our facility must have a four-digit code to get into our building. Visitors and vendors must knock or call into the building to have access to entry and have a staff member escorting them while they are on site. Our playgrounds are fenced with a 6-foot, locked iron fence in the front, and a 6-foot privacy fence in the back. All other outside doors must be opened from the inside.

PB&J: America’s Premier Childcare Webcasting Service

We also offer a webcam service that will allow you to log on from your computer or smart phone and view your child in his or her classroom-in real time.   Parents simply log into the center’s online portal to take part in their child’s learning experience.  “We want our parents to have a sense of safety when their children are in our care which is why we encourage them to drop in via webcam throughout the day,” says Shelley Palmer, Owner.  If there is ever any question about your child’s day, simply let us know.  We will be glad to review the day’s tape and make sure that you are confident about the quality of care that your child is receiving.

Conscious Discipline and Our School Family

We are passionate about creating a “school family” atmosphere.  We want each child to feel connected and part of a community-not just a number in a classroom.  We believe that when you enter our doors, you will immediately sense a calm and peace in our atmosphere-on most days!  We accomplish this by practicing Conscious Discipline, which  is a comprehensive classroom management program  and a social-emotional curriculum .  It is based on current brain research, child development information, and developmentally appropriate practices.  Conscious Discipline has been specifically designed to make changes in the lives of the adults first.  Because of this, we (as a staff) are growing along WITH the children and are constantly learning how to turn everyday situations into times of learning and growth for both teacher and child.   Conscious Discipline promotes an atmosphere of encouragement, positive intent, empathy and love-all which contribute to our “School Family” atmosphere!IMG_5007

Healthy Habits from the Start!

20151124_113835Our commitment to your child’s health also makes us stand out from other centers.  This begins with providing your child with a nutritious breakfast every morning.  You won’t find “cereal” on our menu! You will find high-protein egg casseroles, yummy yogurt parfaits, delicious home-made breads and muffins and center favorites such as made-from-scratch banana pancakes and ham and cheese hash browns (hungry yet?).  You won’t find “hot dogs” or “chicken nuggets” on our lunch menu, either.  What you will find are hot meals such as home-made soups, pizza pasta (again, a favorite) and potato, chicken and cheese casserole.   We also have the BEST snacks.  Who needs goldfish or animal crackers when you can have home-made fruit pops, zucchini brownies, home-made muffins, home-made bean tots and salsa, home-made graham crackers, and cinnamon tortillas with fruit salsa?   To go along with our healthy menu, we provide our children with a variety of outdoor activities and prefer to spend most of our time in our big backyard.  We paint, color, run, play, build, plant and read outside.  We are currently in the process of growing our own pumpkin patch!  Our owner, Ms. Shelley also provides the children with planned indoor physical activities when we can’t get outside (which is rare).  In the summer, we have sprinklers, pools and water slides for the kids to play in at least three days a week.  In the winter, we bundle them up and take them out for fun in the snow!

Kindergarten Readiness

Kindergarten readiness is also a high priority with us.  We use the Little Treasure’s Curriculum, adapted by20150916_101253 each teacher for developmentally appropriate practice in the classrooms.  Little Treasure’s is a literacy-based comprehensive pre-K program.  Little Treasure’s features a rich language and literacy program, big books, and plans for science, social studies, early math and music activities.  The Little Treasures Curriculum will provide your child with a variety of meaningful activities throughout the year, introducing them to or reviewing a specific letter of the alphabet each week.   In addition to Little Treasures, we also use the Handwriting Without Tears Curriculum, which exposes even our littlest learners to songs and activities that help them develop fine motor skills that will be needed for writing later on.  Our older children use play dough, magnets and flip crayons to learn to write in fun and active ways.

Kindergarten readiness is about more than ABC’s and 123’s.  Knowing how to care for classroom materials, being able to follow directions, being able to walk in a line, being able to take care of pottying and washing hands independently and being able to attend to a small task are all things that your child needs to be able to do before entering kindergarten.  We utilize our Conscious Discipline curriculum to help the children develop self-control and social skills within themselves for school-years success.20151210_102125IMG_4752

If you are looking for a safe and loving environment for you child, we would like to encourage you to visit our center.  The best time to tour is from 9:00-11:00, when the children are involved in their daily activities and action is at its peak!  After 2:15 (our kids do take naps) we are able to do tours as well.  Please call and make an appointment, or just stop by.  We will be glad to show you all that our center has to offer.

School Pets

Zira photoWe are proud of all the things that make us different and special and one of those special things are our pets! We have 2 dogs that are on site daily. The dogs greet everyone coming and going and when the teachers request, a member of our administration team can bring the dogs to class for a short, supervised visit. We have Zira (pictured to the left), a 4 year old Chi-Weenie mix that has been raised at Peachwood since she was a puppy. We also have Tank (pictured below), a 10 year old King Charles Spaniel who visits us in the afternoon and has been visiting since the day we opened. They are our greeters, they let us know when we have visitors and they have helped countless children with their separation anxiety and the moments when they just miss mom and dad
