CURRICULUM

We have three main tools that help make up the Peachwood curriculum:

1. Conscious Discipline: A comprehensive emotional intelligence and classroom management system that integrates all domains of learning (social, emotional, physical, cultural and cognitive) into one seamless curriculum

2. Theme based lesson plan: Each week we have a new theme. All of our themes are kid inspired and full of exciting art, sensory, science, and more!

3. Handwriting Without Tears: A developmentally based program designed to progress a child's fine motor skills along with visual skills through fun and interactive activities.

Things that make us unique:

  • Field trips for our preschool classrooms and onsite visitors for all classrooms.

  • Special activities that go with our weekly theme like cooking projects, keepsake projects, and more.

  • Holiday fun: Egg hunts, fall celebrations, visits from Santa, etc.

  • Daily communication between the school and families so parents stay connected.

Conscious Discipline

For over 20 years, Conscious Discipline has fostered a fundamental shift in thinking that empowers adults and children to be the change they want to see in the world.

Conscious Discipline is an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach. It is recognized by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP), and received high ratings in 8 of 10 categories in a Harvard analysis of the nation’s top 25 social-emotional learning programs. The Harvard study’s authors say, “Conscious Discipline provides an array of behavior management strategies and classroom structures that teachers can use to turn everyday situations into learning opportunities.”

The core methodology is based on four essential components that are scientifically and practically designed for success:

Brain State Model

The Conscious Discipline Brain State Model recognizes three basic brain / body / mind states likely to produce certain behaviors. Intentional, state- specific responses enable access to advanced skills.

Seven Powers for Conscious Adults

The seven powers create a shift in the way adults see conflict so we can maintain composure and consciously respond to difficult situations. Adults’ ability to self-regulate is the precursor to teaching children social-emotional skills.

Creating the School Family

The School Family increases connections between adults and children at all levels, ensuring optimal development for all. A School Family culture is built through consistent modeling of routines, rituals and structures.

Seven Skills of Discipline

These seven skills transform everyday discipline issues into teachable moments, equipping children with the social-emotional and communication skills needed to manage themselves, resolve conflict and develop healthy behavior.

Conscious Discipline uses rituals, songs, movement, breathing techniques, and other methods to create a family atmosphere and an appropriate space for problem-solving.

We always encourage our families to visit their website and learn more!

Handwriting Without Tears

A Modern Evolution for a Timeless Practice

  • Research-backed curriculum designed to be easy to teach and easy to learn

  • Developmentally appropriate sequence flows through the entire school

  • Explicit instruction combined with guided practice to promote handwriting automaticity

  • Multisensory learning engages visual, audio, and kinesthetic learners

  • Hands-on tools to build vocabulary, fine motor, and alphabet knowledge prior to writing letters

Students develop crucial academic readiness skills that set them up for success in kindergarten and beyond. The curriculum provides active, joyful ways to learn grip, pre-writing, and social-emotional skills as they progress from scribbling, coloring, and drawing shapes to tracing and copying capital and lowercase letters and numbers.

This program addresses physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills, which are crucial for school readiness and will meet children where they are. The curriculum uses play-based, interactive, and multimodal lessons to teach developmentally appropriate social skills throughout the curriculum.
